Art’s Sermons

“One rainy Sunday when I was in the third grade, I picked up a book to look at the pictures and discovered that even though I did not want to, I was reading. I have been a reader ever since.”

Beverly Cleary

Carol’s Book Reviews

Book Reviews and Sermons, are found here.  There are also memoirs and poetry.  These are the things that I know best.

Seeking God’s will and voice, and reading , thinking things over, praying, attempting to understand the mysteries that life unfolds,  this is a lot of who we are and what we do.

I have always felt that “the world was mine for the reading.” * Reading connects to me to an entire universe of impassioned ideas, and people with whom I can feel akin. As  characters work though their lives’ complexities, it helps me to do the same.  My children, my sisters Linda and Mary, my dear friends and a world of  exquisite writers have inspired these reviews.

Art has been a pastor for the past 30 years.  All of his sermons are my favorite.  Art as a person and his ministry have always inspired me too.

The memoirs  include pieces by friends as well as personal  reflections.  They are as varied and as eclectic  as life itself and have been a great source of fun.

The front page posts here are simply poems.  I was once told about a home in Portland, Oregon that always has new poems displayed in the front yard for passersby to browse. I imagine these posts as my front yard and an invitation for you to come in — look around.

  1. Well, well, well, would’ja lookie at what I found here! Just sittin’ here nursing a cup of Van Houtte Napoletano coffee from my handy-dandy Kuerig. There is hot blood runnin’ through my veins, and clean undies on my backside. My Mom raised me right, can’t’cha tell??? Well, time for this ole’ boy to boogie, because I am reading THE LOST GET-BACK BOOGIE by James Lee Burke, one of my all-time favorite authors. By the way, did anybody mention that I love to read? Well, I do! And I think that’s what I’m gonna do for now!

  2. Following your blog has been a new experience for me. I am checking in weekly for your new reads and Pastor Art’s sermons. You two are so good at what you do. Looking forward to much more.
